When I was fourteen, I moved from Tacoma, WA to Laguna Beach, CA. To say it was a culture shock is an understatement – especially if you happened to be super pale with red hair, freckles and glasses. Not that I know what that feels like or anything. Middle school can be rough, but sometimes you luck out and find a friend at your new school right away. Sometimes that friend believes in you from the very beginning and sometimes, if you’re really lucky, you stay friends even after you both move away and on with life.
When my dear, sweet friend Heather asked if I might be available to photographer her baby sister’s wedding this summer I nearly jumped out from my seat – first, because how on earth could her baby sister be old enough to be getting married and second because I’d get to see Heather and her entire family once again. The details all seemed to fall into place and the event was, of course, pretty special.
Lillian, the aforementioned “baby” sister has grown up to be a stunning, smart and kind woman. Her love, her Englishman Rory, is dashing and so incredibly sweet. He and his brood of English friends were entirely charming (they were known collectively as the “Harry Potter’s” all weekend). I felt so lucky to be part of the weekend of homecoming for all in attendance.
I’ve lived in Washington for most of my life but had never traveled to the Methow Valley. I had no idea what to expect and was absolutely blown away by the geography, the river, the stunning and ever-changing vistas. I will be back: that place got into my very soul. It’s so majestic it’s haunting, truly. Amy’s Manor, the wedding venue, was equally beautiful and perfectly suited to showcase the area.
